Entering The World Of Augmented Reality

The world of Augmented Reality may not promise to be as intriguing as that of the Virtual reality, but the technology is indeed proving itself as an essential tool in our everyday lives. Ranging from the prominent the social media filters to surgical procedures, Augmented Reality is growing speedily in popularity.

This is because it brings components of the virtual world, into our real world, thereby boosting the things we see, hear, and feel. When likened to other reality technologies, augmented reality is embedded in the middle of mixed reality spectrum. This implies that it is caught between the real world and the virtual world.

Simply defined, Augmented Reality is an improved adaptation of reality wherein live direct or indirect outlook of the physical environment of the real-world are augmented with super-imposed computerized images over a user’s view of the real world. This inherently boosts one’s current perception of reality.

Augmented Reality is the innovation that widens our physical world by including layers of digital information onto it. Different from Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality does not form the complete artificial environments to replace the real deal with a virtual one. Augmented Reality materializes in direct view of an already existing environment and provides sounds, videos, and graphics to it.

Types Of Augmented Reality

There are four types of Augmented Reality, and these are;

Marker-Based AR

Lots of people refer to it as image recognition, because it needs an exceptional visual object and a camera to examine it. It may actually be anything ranging from a printed QR code to special symbols.

The Augmented Reality device also gauges the position and assimilation of a marker to position the content, but not in all cases. Therefore, a marker pioneers digital animations for users to have a glimpse of and so images in a magazine are likely to transform into 3D models.

Markerless AR

It is also known as location-based or position-based augmented reality. It makes use of a GPS, a compass, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer to supply information based on a user’s location. This information then concludes on what Augmented Reality content a user will see or get in a particular location.

With the advent of smartphones, this type of Augmented Reality commonly produces maps and directions and nearby businesses information. Its applications are events and information, business ads pop-ups, navigation support, etc.

Projection-Based AR

The projection-based Augmented Reality projects fabricated light to physical surfaces, and in some other cases enables communication with it. Examples of these are the holograms we have all seen in sci-fi movies such as Star Wars. It identifies user communication with a projection by its modifications

Super-Imposition based AR

It replaces the original perception with an Augmented Reality, and it may be fully or partially. Object recognition plays an important act as without it the whole idea is simply impossible. It is safe to say that the majority of us have seen an example of superimposed augmented reality in the IKEA Catalog app. It enables users to position virtual items of their furniture catalog in their various rooms.

In Conclusion

Augmented reality is not just a term from science fiction movies we see on our television screens; this technology actually exists in our real world. There are lots of augmented reality-based applications readily available in both Android and iOS platforms.

It is simply the real world but boosted with virtual objects while Virtual reality is a complete immersion into the virtual world.
